SEINDE ALAKA
1965-2020
Olaseindemi was born on 15th April 1965, the second of five siblings and only son to Alhaji S.O. Alaka {late} and Alhaja G.I. Alaka. Seindemi's early education started at Elleanor Palmer School, Kentish Town; he later moved to Victoria School Camden Town, both in the London Borough of Camden.
In 1972, the family relocated to Nigeria where he was enrolled at Surulere Baptist Primary School, Modupe Johnson Crescent, Surulere Lagos where he finished his primary education. Seinde sat the Common Entrance Examination and gained admission in to Federal Government College, Enugu where he spent the first year of his secondary before returning home to Lagos, due to constantly being homesick. He therefore completed his 'O' Levels and WAEC at Ansar-Ur-Deen College, Isolo, Lagos and went on to study for his 'A' Levels at Lagos City College, Sabo Yaba, Lagos. Seindemi's ambition was to study pharmacy but the only course offered him by the University of Ibadan in 1986 was Agricultural Economics. He decided to go for it with the hope of changing to his desired course when the opportunity arose. Two years into studying Agricultural Economics, Seinde secured admission at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU IFE) to study Pharmacy. Thus, he left the University of Ibadan to start afresh at OAU, to study the course of his dreams.
After completing his pharmacy degree and his Pharmaceutical Internship year at the Yaba Psychiatric Hospital Lagos, he relocated to the UK in 2000, where he started his UK conversion programme at Sunderland University; working night shifts at McDonald’s to support himself through his studies. Following his qualification, he proceeded to work as a Pharmacist in ABC pharmacy (now Day Lewis Ltd) for many years. Between 2000 and 2003, Seinde kept shuttling between The UK and Nigeria where the apple of his eye – Peju, was at the time. In September 2003, Peju moved to the UK to join her heartthrob and they are blessed with two wonderful sons, Olutoni and Toluwani.
He completed a course in pharmaceutical project management and later took a medical prescriber course which saw him move out of Community Pharmacy into consulting in GP Practices. He continued to carry out this role, though on a reduced basis, giving all patients diligent care and advice, right up to a few weeks before his demise.
Seinde had a profound attention to detail and always went above and beyond what was required – he was a perfectionist per excellence. As a young man, he was so passionate about cooking. There was no dish Seinde could not cook and no quantity was too much. He had recipes for various stews and soups up his sleeves while Amala, Lafun and Eba were made so smooth without the tiniest lump. He carried this attention to detail into every aspect of his life and work.
You could never miss your desired destination if Sein gave you directions, as his sense of recollection and description was better than most satnav devices! He was a “mother-hen”, always checking that everyone was alright. He loved watching football games, enjoyed long walks, longer bicycle rides and playing virtual football games. Seinde loved to socialise, help people and was a friend you could count on. He influenced, encouraged and assisted anyone who came in contact with him positively and challenged them to excel in what they do. He never left anyone indifferent and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
